Writer's picture: Raya SammorRaya Sammor

Monkeybread is usually sticky delicious and sweet, but today I wanted to make monkey bread savory with a Mediterranean touch. Filled with cream cheese and salty feta with the hint of dry mint, makes your tastebuds do a little dance, especially with the tangy za'atar and suma2 on the out side. Za'atar is basically dried ground thyme mixed with some suma2 oil and sesame seeds, each city/village has there own way of making it. Za'atar is a staple at every Arabian household, especially during breakfast, it's even been said it makes you smarter, now I dont know if that's a fact or a myth our ancestors made up so we can eat it, either way its delicious.

These days it's easy to find za'atar just check your local middleeastern store, or your local store that has an international isle, I have been seeing za'atar in my local store.

Prep Time

25 min

Cook Time 40 min Ingredients For the filling 2 cans of original flavor biscuits 1 cup of feta cheese 1 block 8 oz cream cheese 1 tbsp of dry mint The outside 1 cup of za'atar 1 tbsp of suma2 Directions Mix the ingredients for the filling together, cut each biscuit into fours, fill each piece of biscuit with a tsp of the filling then close it and make it into rounds then roll in the za'atar and suma2 mix.

After the filled dough has been rolled in the za'atar, place it them in a greased bundt pan.

When done place in a preheated 350 degree oven and bake for 40 min. Flip and serve warm, best with a cup of mint tea!
